"I just communicated to them that I wanted the ninth inning, " Patterson said. "I went to the dugout and they pulled me out of the game. They said if we score two runs in the bottom of the [eighth inning], I can pitch the ninth." The Nationals scored two more runs and had a four-run lead. Like his time with the Nationals this season, Day's sinker had trouble finding its spots. "All my pitches were up in the strike zone," Day said. "I didn't keep the ball down.
