The throw beat Jeter, but the shortstop claimed he reached the bag before he was tagged by Blue Jays third baseman Scott Rolen. "I was told by the umpire that I didn't have to be tagged to be out," Jeter said after the Blue Jays' 6-5 victory. Hirschbeck spoke to Foster on Tuesday and said Foster told Jeter at the time, "The ball beat you, and I had him tagging you." "I don't see a problem with that," Hirschbeck told The AP. "Sometimes when tempers flare, you don't hear everything that's said." Yankees manager Joe Girardi joined Jeter in argument after the play and was eventually ejected. However, Hirschbeck said Girardi was tossed for complaining about a call from Sunday, the report said.
