Our main Yankees source down in Tampa has informed us that the Yankees have “ cooled their interest” on Huston Street and are now looking elsewhere. The reason for this change is two-fold. First off, the Rockies are now fully entrenched in the wild card race. Secondly, Colorado’s asking price for Street was deemed to be way too much (Names like Austin Jackson, Hughes, etc.). As far as other options, Yankees management, as we reported recently, continues to look at San Diego’s Heath Bell, who is having his finest season ever. Other relievers who might also be available are Cleveland set-up man Rafael Betancourt, who has been out with a strained groin and closer Kerry Wood. With their trade of Mark DeRosa this weekend, Cleveland appears to be set to do a full house cleaning. Despite DeRosa’s departure, Cleveland could still be a perfect trading partner for the Mets, who are in dire need of offense. Passing Thoughts While the team has, at least for now, righted the ship offensively, there has continued to be internal discussions whether to add a right handed bat, especially since Xavier Nady is officially lost for the season. While it is highly unlikely, Cashman could make a trade for a right handed hitter who could come off the bench and also fill-in in right field. Our guess is, unless something falls in his lap, Cashman will fully concentrate his efforts on the bullpen. --
