A.L. Predictions for 2009

Last year’s predictions were a disaster. I picked the Yankees to miss the
playoffs, and that was correct. But picking the Seattle Mariners to play in
October? Not so smart. In fact, quite stupid.
But they let me keep my job, so I’m back for another try. Here goes, just
for fun.
A.L. East
1) Yankees -– As long as Chien-Ming Wang stays off the bases.
2) Red Sox -– Love the new road uniforms..
3) Rays -– Will they still play “Feel… the heat… Rays!” this season?
4) Blue Jays -– Kevin Millar (with Boston, with Baltimore, and now with
Toronto) continues his A.L. East tour.
5) Orioles -– Could be worst O’s rotation since these guys, in 1988.
A.L. Central
1) Royals -– Even with Sidney Ponson in the rotation.
2) Twins –- Last year to enjoy the indoor warmth of the Metrodome.
3) White Sox –- At least they have the world’s most powerful fan.
4) Tigers -– Get ready for the Rick Porcello Era.
5) Indians -– Will the Pavano signing be the new “Mistake By The Lake?”
A.L. West
1) Angels -– If Gary Matthews Jr. wants to play here, he should become a
starting pitcher.
2) Rangers -– Best name in baseball? Rookie SS Elvis Andrus.
3) Athletics –- Quick, name two Oakland starting pitchers..
4) Mariners –- Good thing they wouldn’t let the Yankees take Jarrod Washburn
last summer.
A.L. wild card winner — Red Sox
A.L. M.V.P. –- Mark Teixeira, Yankees
A.L. Cy Young winner –- Zack Greinke, Royals
A.L. Rookie of the Year — Matt Wieters, Orioles
A.L.C.S. — Yankees over Red Sox
World Series — Chicago Cubs over Yankees
