Replay Moves Closer to Reality

The use of instant replay in major league games is
inching closer to fruition. The commissioner’s office and the umpires
reached an agreement on the details regarding the implementation of a
replay system on Wednesday.
Although a baseball official who was briefed on the
discussions would not give specifics about the agreement, the World
Umpires Association sent a letter to the commissioner’s office to
confirm the accord.
Major League Baseball has already begun installing equipment
at ballparks and hopes to have the system in place this month. The
replay equipment would be used to help make calls on whether balls
cleared the fence for home runs or whether balls hit near the foul pole
are fair or foul.
