But if I were the GM, I would not pull the trigger if Santana did not sigh
during the trade.

Renting Santana for one year is not worth four top prospects IMO.
The idea of a long term deal must be proposed by Mets firstly, of course with
less years and money. Even Santana had NTC, he can still just waive it and
go to Mets without signing a long term deal but entering the FA market later.
But Mets just did not allow that to happen. The trade and the long term deal
are in a bundle. The leverage was on Santana's side.
