For the past seven years around the Yankees, Jason Giambi's lucky gold undergarments were hardly news. But after an Internet story and a tabloid front cover about the .181 hitter....well, one TV reporter started asking players about boxers and briefs. Good grief. Before the game, Joe Girardi was asked what pleasant surprises had come his way, despite the club's not-so-hot start, and he - once again - praised Giambi's work ethic, approach, health, attitude, and his ability to play "day after day after day.'' After Giambi homered off Johan Santana and singled in a 2-for-4 day, the topic was strictly baseball - and his belief that 2008 has been full of lousy luck. "It's almost been comical this year, how hard I've hit the ball and not gotten anything for it.'' Better luck is coming for Giambi, in his walk year....at least the winter meetings are in his backyard. Vegas, baby. --
