Persistent reports have the Mets interested in Texas' Alfonso Soriano,
although lately the focus has been on how a deal is unlikely. But a factor
in the situation is Randolph's relationship with Soriano, a former Yankee
who learned to play second base in the Bronx under Randolph's tutelage.
Randolph, the Yankees' former bench coach, said on his weekly segment on
WFAN on Wednesday that Soriano is "like a son" to him.
