《柳树园畔》的歌词是爱尔兰诗人叶慈（W.B. Yeats）於乡间采集所得，
有英文和爱尔兰文两种。1909年Herbert Hughes为其套上另一首民谣《The
Maids of Mourne Shore》的旋律，也就是我们采用的Alice Parker和Robert
Shaw所编的版本。歌词描述男主唱与恋人在柳树园畔相遇，但由於年轻不
懂事，终於泪眼成行。
