《柳树园畔》的歌词是爱尔兰诗人叶慈(W.B. Yeats)於乡间采集所得,
有英文和爱尔兰文两种。1909年Herbert Hughes为其套上另一首民谣《The
Maids of Mourne Shore》的旋律,也就是我们采用的Alice Parker和Robert
Shaw所编的版本。歌词描述男主唱与恋人在柳树园畔相遇,但由於年轻不
懂事,终於泪眼成行。
