在跻身歌坛的十余年间Karen Carpenter和Richard Carpenter囊括了举世歌迷的热爱，两
人一共推出了四十一张专辑与单曲唱片，销售量超过一亿张以上，并且曾经夺得过三座葛
莱美奖。
凯伦和她的哥哥理查共同组成的Carpenters/木匠兄妹合唱团，从1969年起的十余年间，
一直是全世界最受欢迎的团体。虽然摇滚音乐界的乐评家们对他们并不友善，甚至还批评
他们的唱片「根本没有发行的价值」，但是歌迷们毫不在意「专家们」的说法，而根据统
计，他们甚至还是那些年代在国际市场上最赚钱的美国艺人。即使凯伦过世已经多年，他
们的唱片依然持续热卖。
1970年六月，木匠兄妹的"Close to You"和同名的专辑上市发行，很快的就打进排行榜。
这首歌在七月二十五日登上了冠军宝座，蝉联四个星期，也让木匠兄妹夺得「年度最佳新
进艺人」和「年度最佳流行合唱团体」两项葛莱美奖，为流行音乐史揭开了新的一页。
