试题 :
1. Chris Anderson, the author of 'The Long Tail', argued that the future of
business and culture is not in hits (i.e. the popular sellers), but in what
used to be considered as misses (i.e. the tail). According to Anderson, what
causes "the death of 80/20 law"? What are the three forces behind such a
phenomenon? Try to elaborate his argument and also offer your own observations.
2. Chris Anderson argued that people's consumption of information will be more
diverse with more choices now being made available online. Discuss how you
agree and disagree with him. Other than availability, can you think of other
factors that might influence the range and variety of our information consump-
tion?
3. What are the characteristics of information we have talked about in the
class that distinguishes it from other goods or resources? For each characte-
ristic you list, try to explain how it might impact the major concern of infor-
mation science.
4. Define 'cognitive authority.' What are the possible cues we as information
seekers can use to infer the 'cognitive authority' of information and informa-
tion source? How do search engines automatically determine the authority of a
web page?
5. What does David Weinberger mean by "three-orders of order" of information
organization? How has digitalization changed the ways we access information.
Focus especially on how users' browsing experience with information in virtual
space might be different from that in physical space.
6. Internet is said to be a disruptive technology that unexpectedly changes the
established socio-technological arrangement. Discuss the promises brought
about by the Internet for the reform of scholarly communication, particularly
in the context of "serial crisis". What are the main initiatives and movements
that aim to tackle the crisis?
