1.How much heat(kJ)is required to raise the temperature of 1000 g of water
from 25 。C to 100 。C? (specific heat of water is 4.18Jg^-1 。C^-1) (8prs)
2.Calculate the boiling point of liquid Br2, where △H。=31.0kJ/mol and
S。=93.0JK^-1mol^-1. (8pts)
3.Calculate the value of Keq (equilibrium constant)at 25。C for a reaction:
2 NO2(g)<->N2O4(g), where △G。f(。右上缩小;f右下缩小) is 51.3 kJ for
NO2 and 97.8 kJ for N2O4.(8pts)
4.Calculate the final temperature and the work done when Ar is used in an
irreversible adiabatic expansion from 0.5 to 1.0 L at initial of 25。C.

5.Assuming that the ammonia synthesis reaction reaches equilibrium at pressure
of N2=1.47 atm, H2=0.01 atm, and NH3=1.0 atm at 25。C for the following

(a)Calculate the △G。of this reaction at 25。C,
(b)Under what temperature condition, the reaction favors the product.
(c)Calculate the △G if double the pressure of NH3,
(d)Calculate the value of K at 600。C. (16pts)
6.We used Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) to measure the heat released
from folded to unfolded states of DNA, F→U. A similar DSC melting curve is

Calculate △H。, △S。 and △G at 25。C of this reaction. (16pts)
7.If Pex is held constant at 1 atm, cal q, w, and △E on a system of 5 mole of

from 10 atm to 1 atm, and determine △S_total=△S_sys+△S_surr for both (a)
and (b) expansions. (16pts)
8.Consider the reaction: CO(g)+H2O(g)<->CO2(g)+H2(g),
(a)calculate △H。 and △S。if the value of Keq are 210 at 478K, 73 at 533 K
(b)determine Keq for the reaction at 298K. (16pts)
9.A Carnot cycle uses 1.0 mole of an ideal gas from an initial state of 10.0
atm and 500K to a pressure of 1.0 atm via isothermal expansion (step1), and
then to a temperature of 300K via adiabatic expansion (step2), This
expansion is followed by an isothermal compression (step3) and then an
adiabatic compression (step4) back to the initial state.
(a)Determine q and w for each step of the cycle.
(b)Calculate the efficiency (total work/heat absorb) in Carnot cycle.
(c)Calculate the amount of heat absorbed by the engine and heat discharged
at 300K. (24pts)
