Final Examination (Open book, 2 hours)
1. Please write down and explain the physical meaning of the velocity potential
, stream function and water surface elevation of progressive waves and
standing waves, respectively.
2. Please write down and describe the physical meaning of the continuity
equation, momentum equation, wave equation and wave celerity.
3. What is the physical reason that the pressure is hydrostatic under the nodes
of a standing wave (to first order in wave height)?
4. Show from the continuity equation,

and can be expressed as

with linearly increasing depth and constnat width. What assumptions have
