Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis announced Wednesday
that he will retire from the NFL at the end of the season.
He told the Ravens "this will be my last ride."
"It's time for me to create a new legacy," Lewis said.
Lewis has been out of action since Oct. 14 with a triceps injury.
Lewis, now in his 17th year, is a seven-time first team All-Pro linebacker a
nd has been to 12 Pro Bowls. He won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2000 and 2003. Lewis was also part of Ravens' championship run in Super Bowl XXXV and was named the game's Most Valuable Player.
