By comparing the genomes between human and other model organisms, we may gain insights into the genetic backgrounds from where human-specific traits emerge. In this presentation, I will discuss the divergences between human and other model organisms and their biological implications. Particularly, the human genome contains a surprisingly large number of species-specific insertions and deletions that affect such biological functions as transcriptional/translational regulations and viral life cycle. Some of these genetic changes, possibly due to their importance in human adaptation, are subject to positive selection. Meanwhile, human also differs from other organisms at the transcriptome level. By examining the processed pseudogenes of human and chimpanzee, we were able to trace the evolutionary history of the ancestral human transcriptome and identify lineage-specific loss of exons. We found that even between such closely related species as human and chimpanzee, transcript structures may have changed considerably. The divergences between human and other primates are thus multi-layered and more complex than we previously recognized. 敬请公布 欢迎参加 --
