时间 96年4月13日(星期五)上午10:40-11:30 (上午10:20-10:40茶会於交大统计所428室举行) 地点 交大综合一馆427室 主讲人 Prof. Seng-jaw Soong (University of Alabama at Birmingham, USA) 讲题 Multivariate Modeling of Cancer Prognosis and Staging Abstract Prediction of the clinical course of cancer and treatment outcome is an essential part of cancer research and clinical practice. Myriad clinical, pathologic and other features that appear to affect cancer recurrence and patient survival have been studied extensively over the past three decades for major cancer sites/types. With the aid of powerful statistical and computing techniques, remarkable progress has been made in the identification of dominant factors that characterize the natural history and clinical outcomes of these cancers. More recently, useful models for predicting patient survival and disease recurrence have also been investigated for several types of cancers. In this talk, I plan to present, as an example, my personal research experience in the study of natural history and prognosis of melanoma (a lethal type of skin cancer) over the past 30 years through international collaboration efforts in this research area. I also plan to demonstrate the usefulness of the predictive models we developed and to discuss their practical applications, including the development of a comprehensive melanoma staging system. In addition, I also plan to discuss the important current efforts of the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) and the International Union Against Cancer (UICC) on developing evidence-based cancer staging systems and my role as chairman of the AJCC Statistical Task Force Committee. --
