William Shakespeare ever said,"A young man married is a man that's marr'd." Marriage is a term that may sound faraway, or irrelevant, to most of us; the discussion of it may also appear too complicated to a tender mind like mine. Nonetheless, few would deny that marriage awaits us as a rite of passage in the life journey; eight to nine out of ten among us will either put on the white gauze or kneel down to present the ring, sooner or later. However, what is regarded as the sine qua non behind the glittering facade of marriage? True love toward each other is too trite to squander upon a drop of ink. Contrary to the former times, love no longer conquers all in this brave new era; instead, votaries of such naive belief are often conquered by the grim reality. "At least, he should own a house; the bigger, the better!" many of my female friends tell so in a matter-of-fact way. Somehow, the casual lightness of their tone should cast unknown, yet soffocating, heaviness upon my shoulders. Such reaction is exactly like deja vu. Back in the past, my heart was ever jerked the same way when my ex-girlfriend, nestling against me, excitingly portrayed a rosy picture of our future: vacation villas, streamline cars, world trips, and more! Not in the least did I complain about her great expectations then. During that night I burned the midnight oil tirelessly and whole-heartedly, in the forlorn hope of pinching one more penny from my hard studying.... However, girls are not to blame for it. It is just like a vocation, or an unwritten rule. Only by fulfilling this task can a tender guy become a mature man, a doting husband, and ultimately a competent father. Is my attitude toward marriage too narrow, too sophisticated? Maybe. Yet, it's only too true. --
