Corey Maggette's return from a hamstring injury likely will come with a new role. Warriors coach Don Nelson acknowledged Sunday that he is considering using his injury-prone forward off the bench, partly as a way of keeping him on the floor. "His days of playing 40 minutes a game are over," Nelson said after Maggette practiced again with the second team. "For his body, his hamstring, less minutes are important for him. We've got to get him consistently playing, so if he feels good tomorrow, we'll see how that goes." Maggette is on track to end his monthlong layoff against the Jazz tonight after testing his hamstring in scrimmages over the past week. He last played Dec. 6 and has appeared in only 16 of the Warriors' 35 games since signing in the offseason as a free agent from the Clippers. Maggette went through stretches as both a starter and sixth man in Los Angeles - most recently for half the 2006-07 season, averaging 16.9 points on 45.4 percent shooting - though he didn't see eye-to-eye with how he was used by Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy. Maggette said Sunday that Nelson hadn't broached the topic of becoming a reserve with him yet, but accepted the possibility. "As a player, I don't consider myself that," Maggette said. "But I want to win. Whenever the coach tells me he wants me to do that, that it's better for the team, I'm with it." "He had one of his best years when he was a sixth man," Nelson said. "He'll do whatever we need him to do, so it's no problem with him personally." Maggette's possible move to the bench could ease his transition into the Warriors' drive-and-kick offense, which was installed after their Dec. 6 loss to the Spurs. As Golden State's leading scorer at 19.1 points per game, Maggette is likely to have more of his preferred isolation plays called for him as a member of the second unit. It's also a way to even out the scoring, similar to what Nelson tried to do with ex-Warriors forward Al Harrington at times last season. "You want to go out there and earn your money," said Maggette, who signed a five-year, $50 million contract. "Speaking for myself, and Monta (Ellis). ...
