I deeply appreciate his work. I'm just saying that he's getting overly excited about Linux-as-GameOS because he's just discovered it himself (since unfortunately he didn't follow existing work). His method of getting Linux to run with GameOS permissions is novel, useful, and great, but the end result once you actually run Linux is identical to what I was doing several months back. For example, since I know very little about lv1 internals, my plan was to eventually be able to install Linux to the GameOS partition, as a loopfile, so you can install Linux without reformatting anything. However, since I bet he can figure out how to create new HDD storage regions, that's a great alternative that's closer to what the old OtherOS did. Since this is all pretty new still, unless you're comfortable compiling your own kernel, I suggest you wait until I get a chance to add HDD boot support to asbestos, after which I'll build a nice Ubuntu image with a patched kernel that should be easy to install. This is one place where graf's method does have an advantage: since I assume he knows how to convince the HV to boot with 128MB bootmem, he can actually run old OtherOS kernels unmodified, including petitboot. I need some minor kernel patches and some AsbestOS integration, so you'll need new kernels.
