标题[外电] Mavericks officially sign Amar’e Stou

As expected, Amar’e Stoudemire cleared waivers at 4 p.m. Wednesday and
signed a contract with the Mavericks for the rest of this season.
The 6-foot-10, 245-pound Stoudemire, 32, is in his 13th NBA season. It’s
expected that he will back up both starting center Tyson Chandler and power
forward Dirk Nowitzki.
Stoudemire was at American Airlines Center much of Wednesday afternoon going
through a physical. He met the team at its Love Field hangar, signed his
contract and flew to Oklahoma City with his new teammates.
“I’m excited to be a part of a first-class organization,” Stoudemire said
in a Mavericks news release. “To play alongside Dirk Nowitzki, Tyson
Chandler and other great players, I think it’s a tremendous opportunity for
me to compete for a championship.”
To make room for Stoudemire on the roster, the Mavericks as expected waived
swingman Ricky Ledo.
Stoudemire is in the final season of the five-year, $97.9 million contract he
signed when he came to the New York Knicks. His contract called for him to
make $23.4 million this season. The Knicks bought out the remainder of his
contract and the Mavericks will pay him just under $500,000.
Chandler, who played two seasons alongside Stoudemire with the Knicks, was
asked after Wednesday’s practice if he could sense an excitement level among
Mavericks.
“I know I am,” Chandler said. “I know what he can provide. He’s an
incredible finisher at the rim and one of the best pick-and-roll players we
have in the game, still. I’m excited for what he can bring.
“I feel like he can really flourish because his minutes won’t be really
high. He’ll be asked to do what he’s great at doing – finishing and
scoring in the paint. It’s going to be an incredible addition for us.”
In 36 appearances for the Knicks this season, he averaged 12.0 points, 6.8
rebounds and 24 minutes played.
“I think he’s obviously a great upgrade to our front line, especially our
thin bench,” Nowitzki said Wednesday.
