Last, but certainly not least, guard Roddy Beaubois hopped off the court near the end of practice, crying out in agony. Coach Rick Carlisle said it is too soon to know about Beaubois’ status, but he injured the same ankle (left) that kept him sidelined during much of training camp. So the ongoing roster soap opera, As The Mavericks Turn, continues. “He turned his ankle again,” Carlisle said of Beaubois, who apparently injured himself when he accidentally stepped on Vince Carter’s foot. “We’ re hoping he’s going to be OK and it’s not serious.” Of Kaman’s participation today, Carlisle said: “This is a very positive thing, but we’ve got to see how he comes out of it tomorrow.” The 6-11 Murphy made his mark in the NBA as an excellent outside shooter and above-average rebounder, averaging a double-double in points and rebounds in five seasons _ but his production has declined dramatically in recent seasons. Murphy played in 59 games last season with the Lakers, averaging 3.2 points and 3.2 rebounds. He played for Carlisle at Indiana in 2007 and stayed with the Pacers for four seasons, after current Dallas assistant Jim O’Brien replaced Carlisle as Indiana’s head coach. “We need rebounding, we need shooting,” Carlisle said. “He’s a veteran guy who’s proven in both of those areas.
