Peja Stojakovic signs with Mavs The NBA formally approved the Alexis Ajinca trade to the Toronto Raptors Monday afternoon, which allowed the Dallas Mavericks to quickly sign forward Peja Stojakovic. Mavs president Donnie Nelson confirmed that Stojakovic, released by the Raptors on Thursday, has been signed. Owner Mark Cuban welcomed Stojakovic to the team via his Twitter account: "Peja is now a Mav ! Time to let him drop some of those 3s on the bad guys." Dallas sends Ajinca to Toronto and will pay the remainder of his $1.5 million salary for the season and return a future second-round pick that Toronto had sent Dallas during the 2010 draft last June, as well as cash considerations. In return, Dallas would receive the rights to 2007 second-round pick Georgios Printezis (who plays in Spain and is no longer considered an NBA prospect) and create a trade exception equal to Ajinca's $1.5 millon salary along with the open roster spot needed to sign Stojakovic. The trade appeared to be a done deal Thursday night when the Mavs played at Chicago. Ajinca was even sent from the United Center back to the team hotel. However, the process became delayed when some teams lodged complaints that the Mavs and Raptors arranged the deal to circumvent the salary cap. Stojakovic will take a physical to officially join the team. After Monday's practice, coach Rick Carlisle said Stojakovic will not play Tuesday night when the Mavs open a four-game homestand against the Los Angeles Clippers, and possibly would not be ready for Thursday's game against Houston. Stojakovic has been bothered by a knee issue and has played just eight games this season for the New Orleans Hornets and Raptors. He hasn't played in a game since Nov. 26. "He's coming off a situation where he's missed some time due to a minor knee injury," Carlisle said. "There's going to be a period where we have to make sure his conditioning and health is right before we put him on the floor.
