Before they took the court against the Blazers on Tuesday night, I got a chance to ask him if this team still has a chance to be special – as in championship special – without Caron Butler. "Yeah, absolutely," Cuban said. "We're a much better team with Caron, obviously, but we're still a better team than we were last year, even without Caron. "And other than the Spurs, it's not like the other teams aren't having their issues, too." The Mavericks are not going to go into panic mode and start beating the trade bushes to find someone who can fill in for Butler. Patience is the best course of action in this situation. Trying to make something happen – trading for one of the usual suspects like Andre Iguodala or Stephen Jackson – isn't going to solve anything. Deals done out of desperation almost never work. So what Cuban is saying is right. Even if the rest of us have a hard time believing it like he does. The Mavericks have to give themselves time to prove they are still a high-quality team without Butler.
