"I had to take a little notice when Pat Riley came to Charlotte," he said. "That kind of got my attention." Riley, Miami's president and part-owner, can do that. But at the time of his visit, nobody knew the Heat would pull off its bid for Chris Bosh and LeBron James. "We talked to them the whole time," Haywood said. "But I don't think anybody knew" about James and Bosh. And if he had known, would it have made a difference? "I don't think financially that was an option," said Haywood, who signed a long-term extension starting at $6.9 million this season. "I'm happy to be here."
