Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic awful vs Liverpool FC
Liverpool vs Man Utd ended in a deserved victory for the Merseysiders as
Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic performed badly.
David de Gea - 6
Made some decent stops to foil Fabinho before Liverpool inevitably breached
United through Sadio Mane.
Ashley Young - 5
Seconds after he sent Mohamed Salah towards Row A he let Mane give him the
slip and open the scoring.
Eric Bailly - 5
A late call-up for Chris Smalling, who got injured in the warm-up. Settled
for basic defending but Xherdan Shaqiri's goal deflected in off him.
Victor Lindelof - 4
Looked exactly like a player who had spent three weeks out. Overwhelmed by
Liverpool's intensity and pressing. Forced into errors.
Matteo Darmian - 5
Began at centre half in a back three and moved to right-back to accommodate
the second-half formation switched. Acquitted himself well in both roles.
Diogo Dalot - 5
Came off at half-time after a testing 45 minutes. Got booked and barely
threatened in attack due to Andy Robertson's adventure.
Ander Herrera - 4
Showed early intent to press when Liverpool had the ball but could not keep
that up as defensive duties took priority.
Nemanja Matic - 2
Slow with and without the ball. Could have sparked the odd counter-attack if
he looked forward but was constantly looking and playing backwards.
Jesse Lingard - 6
Responded to Gary Neville's and Roy Keane's pre-match criticism by seizing on
Alisson's blunder. Not enough teammates played with his positivity.
Marcus Rashford - 5
Determined from the off and may have provided more of a threat if he had a
more polished foil than Romelu Lukaku. Didn't track back for Shaqiri's
winner.
Romelu Lukaku - 1
Maybe Alisson fumbled the ball because Lukaku did something. Lost almost
every duel with Virgil van Dijk and played amateurishly.
Subs
Marouane Fellaini - 4
Clumsy.
Anthony Martial - 5
Came on just before the contest ended.
Juan Mata - 5
Did next to nothing.
