Madonna blames organizers for her off-color remarks at London art
awards
Madonna, who has proven before that she likes a good controversy,
has continued to be a target since using profanity on live TV while
presenting a prestigious art award in London. Now the singer is
swinging back at her critics, blaming those who were presenting the
prize for making her mad enough to swear, according to BBC radio.
The event was called the Turner Awards. It honored new British art.
As Madonna handed out the prize she used an expletive. The TV
censors failed to catch the unexpected phrase, and it was aired live
in the U.K. The TV network later apologized to viewers, but not
Madonna.
In an interview in the U.S., she has blamed the organizers for her
off-color remarks and says she still has no regrets.
The pop diva says that those behind the awards tried to control her
remarks, which was only asking for trouble: "They wanted me to give
them a copy of my speech before I went on and I said 'no, I'm not
going to.' So they kept trying to get the information out of me in
really unclever ways. And I got pissed off with them."
Madonna decided the organizers had no sense of humor. She says it
got her so worked up, she just had to let rip: "They said 'How would
I like to be introduced?' and I said 'Mrs. Ritchie.'" "They
said. 'Oh no - we can't do that because everyone knows you as
Madonna.'" "I mean it was ridiculous."
She added: "And then they said at the end, 'We hope and pray that
there's no profanity in your speech.'" "Of course, I did take that
as an invitation, and I said it and I felt much better afterwards."
