I decided I wasn't in a position to sustain the emotional commitment necessary to stand between Madonna and the media. I've given everything I can. I love her, cherish her and lovingly say goodbye. Our friendship will remain. "Now I get a chance to work with some of Warner's new emerging artists. There will be life after Madonna. And, I get to work with Cher on her new album, expected before the end of the year. And I get to breathe and think how I can do something wonderful for this world!" Rosenberg says she told Madonna, 43, her decision last Friday: "She was very sweet about it, very grateful for our long history through unbelievably trying times. I will certainly always be there for her if she needs me. But I want to feel more productive." Madonna, she says, "doesn't want to open up her world, her heart, her feelings to the media as she was once more than happy to do. I just did not want to spend time fending off press people that Madonna didn't want to talk to anyway." So Rosenberg won't be fielding any more questions about breastfeeding or the state of Madonna's marriage to Guy Ritchie: "You couldn't believe the questions. I couldn't even make it up. . . . She always used to say, 'I wouldn't want your job.' " Rosenberg, who also has repped Stevie Nicks, Fleetwood Mac and Chris Isaak, will be free to spend time on Cher's new record and new Warner artist Kelly LeBesque.
