"Once we found out that Taipei Arena was available again, we informed Carey's team right away," said Amy Ko, a promoter at Yu Kuang Music. "Unfortunately, we haven't gotten any response yet," she told CNA, but promised an answer "soon." "If we get a positive response from the pop diva, the most likely date for the concert would be Oct. 30," she said. Carey and Dion had been competing to book Taipei Arena from Oct. 27 to 30, with the Canadian singer winning the time slot in the end. After losing out in Taipei, Carey's team chose to put on a concert in Manila on Oct. 28. On Aug. 13, however, Dion announced that she had canceled her Asia tour to look after her 72-year-old husband Rene Angelil, who is battling throat cancer. After Dion's announcement, Taiwanese fans crossed their fingers that Carey would again be willing to perform in Taiwan. "There has been another variable in all of this," Ko said, explaining that a second concert promoter is also trying to sign up Carey and have her perform at the Taipei World Trade Center Nangang Exhibition Hall on Oct. 26. Although Taipei Arena is a better venue for concerts, any decision on performing in Taipei and where the performance would be held is up to Carey's team, Ko said. She hoped the American singer-songwriter could choose at least one of the options so that her diehard fans in Taiwan have a chance to see her live again. Carey, who came to Taiwan in 1998 as part of her Butterfly World Tour, released her 14th album, "Me. I Am Mariah... The Elusive Chanteuse" in May. (By James Lee) --
