On a scale of 1 to The Emancipation of Mimi, how weird is Mariah Carey's new
album title? Probably around a 7 or 8
After suggesting that she would release her new album Beyoncé-style (
while
perhaps missing the point of what Beyoncé-style actually means), Mariah
Carey finally unveiled the title of her upcoming album on Wednesday. This is
what it's called:
Me. I Am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse.
专辑名称特色：
1. 不寻常的标点符号使用；
2. 单字有难度；
3. 每个diva都有一张"Here I Am"类型专辑名称，但玛咪咪换个方式讲、脱颖而出。
And that title is quite something. It has unusual punctuation, Pre-SAT vocab
words and a spin on the all-too-common, self-affirming Here I Am-esque album title that a diva seems required to put out at least
once in her career.
童年画作若成为专辑封面会非常棒 (可惜玛咪咪执迷於摆pose这件事情上)。
In its defense, though, the name comes from her “first and only”
self-portrait, a childhood drawing that would have actually made compelling
album artwork if Carey wasn't so interested in trying to win America's Next
Top Model with her album poses. “Please don't judge me for such a
simplistic title,” Carey says in a video announcing the project, “Come on,
I was only three and a half.”
要比专辑名称拗口，玛咪咪不是第一。
倒是她藉由此专辑替自己正名：请叫我chanteuse！
The title could certainly be more of a mouthful than it already is (looking
at you, Neko Case and Fiona Apple), and it will no doubt help
synonym-challenged music writers who are torn between calling her a chanteuse
or a siren or a songstress or a diva — chanteuse it is, in her own words!

But lastly, and most importantly? When your new record is your fourteenth
studio album, you've earned the right to call it whatever you want.
