"When the president came to talk to me I informed him of my decision," Aurelio added. "The club made an effort, but my situation meant that I was not prepared to think about staying with Valencia." Aurelio stated that he was keen to impress in his regular left-back role and force his way into the Brazil squad for the World Cup Finals, but has had a wasted season after being used as a utility player. With Emiliano Moretti and Amadeo Carboni able to play on the left of the defence, Aurelio has been used on the left wing in place of Vicente, in central midfield and even as a forward. His lack of opportunities in the back four allied with the fact that he has only completed nine matches this term have led to the former Sao Paulo player to move elsewhere. "I was hoping to contribute a great deal this year and help the team leading up to the World Cup. I thought that after all my injuries I was ready to show what I could do. "But it did not turn out like that and I feel like it has been a wasted year on a personal level. The French striker is currently on loan at Blackburn and he has impressed since moving across Lancashire. Pongolle has previously insisted that his long-term plan was to return to Liverpool. However, the 21-year-old insists he will not move back if coach Rafa Benitez buys any more forwards - which also includes a possible new deal for Robbie Fowler. "Because I still live around Liverpool, people ask me when I am coming back," said Pongolle. "But what happens with Fowler could have an impact. If he [Benitez] signs two new strikers, I won't go back. It would be impossible. "I'm 21 years old and I need to play, I want to play. It's difficult and frustrating when you are sat on the bench and not involved in a game. "At Liverpool, even if I played well or didn't play well, I never knew whether I was going to play the next match. "As a striker, that makes things really difficult in your head because you need confidence to score goals. "So that's what I need - to start a game, enjoy my football and not think whether I am going to play the next match or not." Pongolle also revealed that Blackburn had made moves to sign him on a permanent basis. "I know Blackburn have spoken to my agent about staying, which is good for me," added Pongolle. "But nothing has been decided. I'm still thinking about my future because I know I face an important decision at the end of the season. "Blackburn have at least given me a chance to play games, and under the manager, everything is different. He speaks to me more. "I have played under a French manager in [Gerard] Houllier, a Spanish manager in Rafa, and now a British-style manager in Hughes. "I feel it is a proper experience, and I have learned a lot.
