Leading 3-2 from the first leg, City appeared to be in full control of the tie when Daniel Sturridge opened the scoring on the night to give the home side a two goal cushion. But Newcastle refused to cave in and Nicky Deverdics pulled one back to set up a tense finale. City hung on to claim a 4-3 aggregate success and set up a final clash with Liverpool which will take place over two legs.
