Base: A base is the form to which an affix is added. In many cases, the base is also the root. (affix= prefix , infix or suffix) 要先分清楚的是 Root 对应的是 Affix; Base 根据定义指的是 "the form to which an affix is added." 因此只要是 Affix 套上去的那个 element 就叫 Base, 不管套几层, 都是Base. 因此, 拿 "darkened" 做例子, V / \ Base for -ed --> V \ / \ \ Root and base for -en --> A af af | | | dark en ed 最下层的 dark 是root,但同时也是後缀(suffix) "-en" 的base, 因此这里的 dark 有 两种身分: root and base. 而第二层的 darken 结合ed, 这时的 darken 就是後缀"-ed"的base, 但已经不是 root了 因此 root 有可能同时具有 base 的身分 (只要有affix加在它身上), 但 base 不一定都 是 root.
