Born in Hong Kong in 1956, Leslie Cheung was educated in England. He returned
to Hong Kong in the mid-1970s and launched the career as singer and actor
which has made him one of the most popular and widely known of all Chinese
stars. He has won numerous awards for both his albums and his screen
performances. His many films include A Better Tomorrow and A Better Tommorrow
II (John Woo, 1986/1988), A Chinese Ghost Story and A Chinese and Who's the
Woman, Who's the Man (Pete Chan, 1994/1996), Farewell My Concubine and
Temptress Moon (Chen Kaige, 1993/1996) and Viva Erotica! (Derek Yee and
Lo Chi-Leung, 1996). He has previously worked with Wong Kar-Wai in Days of
Being Wild (1990) and Ashes of Time (1994).
