MIAMI— So how is Miami Heat vs. Indiana Pacers going to start? Apparently
with the Pacers calling the Heat cheaters.
With the Pacers practicing Thursday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in
Indianapolis and the Heat taking Thursday off, the first salvo of the series
belonged to Pacers coach Frank Vogel.
"
They are the biggest flopping team in the NBA," Vogel said. "It will be very
interesting to see how the referees officiate this series and how much flopping
they reward.

"Every time you drive to the basket, they've got guys not making a play on
the ball, but sliding in front of drivers, often times they're falling down
before contact is even made. It'll be very interesting to see how this series
is officiated."

That said, Vogel insisted his team is good enough that it won't need special
consideration to make it a series.

"I think we're embracing the challenge," he said. "We feel like we're on one
of the best teams in the league. We are not viewing this in any way, shape or
form like a David-versus-Goliath type of meeting. We are not the underdog here.
"This is two heavyweights going toe-to-toe. That's how we view this series.
We feel like we're one of the best teams."
Of Heat coach Erik Spoelstra saying this is a series so physical it could be
played in a cage, Vogel said, "This is Eastern Conference basketball, right?
Two of the best teams in the East going at it. They definitely preach
physicality; we preach physicality."
Vogel said he views his team's offensive efficiency as a key.

"The biggest point of emphasis is probably our offensive execution," he said,
"because their greatest strength offensively is getting in transition and if we
are poor executing our offense and we turn the ball over a lot or take bad
shots, all that stuff triggers their transition game. And if we allow them to
get out in transition we're going to really struggle to guard them."
Vogel went to zone defense against the Heat during the regular season and
hinted he might again.
"Honestly, I did think about it, and I'm continuing to think about it," he
said. "I think zone is a possibility."
Vogel said he also is considering injecting swingman Dahntay Jones back into
his mix as a defensive stopper, to counter LeBron James and Dwyane Wade.
