Bryant scored 55 points, the most in the NBA this season, as the Los Angeles Lakers defeated Michael Jordan and the Washington Wizards last night, 108-94. Bryant's scoring display, which included a team-record 42 points in the first half, came in what probably was his and the Lakers' final game against Jordan, 40, who plans to retire after this season. Often hailed as the "next Michael Jordan," a comparison he dislikes, Bryant, 24, made nine shots in a row during a second quarter stretch. His 42 first-half points broke a team record that had stood for 43 years. The 55 points were one shy of Bryant's career best, and eclipsed the previous league high this season - 53 points by New York's Allan Houston in a win over the Lakers on Feb. 16. Bryant got 24 of his first-half points on 8-for-11 shooting from three- point range, tying a league record for three-pointers in a half. Earlier this season, Bryant set an NBA mark by making a dozen three- pointers in a game. He scored 45 points in that contest, a 119-98 win over Seattle on Jan. 7. He finished 15-for-29 from the floor. Shaquille O'Neal added 26 points and 13 rebounds for the Lakers. Jordan finished with 23 points, 17 in the first half. Jerry Stackhouse added 22 points for Washington. --
