By ART THOMPSON III The Orange County Register LOS ANGELES – Corey Maggette rejoined his Clippers teammates at practice Saturday for the first time in eight days vowing to be ready for the playoffs and not ruling out playing in one of the final three regular- season games. "If it's possible, I'd like to get a game in before the playoffs start to test myself out," he said. Despite his optimistic view, Maggette likely will be kept inactive for the three games. "He got treatment today and said that he's feeling better," Coach Mike Dunleavy said. "Actually, I was surprised to see him here." Moving gingerly, Maggette shot free throws and mid-range jump shots at the conclusion of Saturday's practice after spending a large portion of the morning receiving treatment and therapy for his herniated disc. Maggette was given an epidural Tuesday and is scheduled to get another injection Monday. "I'm better now," he said. "I can do some stuff now. I'm taking it one day at a time, trying to get myself ready for the playoffs. But the first four days, it was tough. I couldn't even get out of bed for three days." Maggette was stricken with severe back spasms April 7, during a morning shootaround as the Clippers covered their assignments for that night's game against the Sacramento Kings. Maggette visited a doctor and a chiropractor that day but in the days that followed he was immobile and in such pain, the Clippers sent a private physical therapist to his house. When asked how his back became injured, Maggette replied: "Your guess is as good as mine. One minute I was just standing up, going through a walk-through and the next thing, the spasms just came." It is the third in a series of injuries that have limited Maggette to just 31 games. It began with a strained left hamstring that cost him the first four. That was followed by a separated ligament in his left foot that shelved him for 39.
