The first-time homebuyer tax credit is not $8000 for everyone!
Assuming
- you purchased a house this year before the deadline,
- the purchase price is at least $80000 and
- you qualify for the first-time homebuyer tax credit,
let x denote your modified adjusted gross income.
If you are single:
╭ 8000 if x ≦ 75000,
credit(x) = ┤ 38000 - 0.4x if 75000 ＜ x ＜ 95000,
╰ 0 if x ≧ 95000.
