Stoudemire averaged 29 points and 9.5 boards -- with three double-doubles -- in four games while shooting a gaudy .608 from the floor. More importantly, he led the Knicks to three straight wins and a 3-1 overall record. Raymond Felton and Danilo Gallinari also received much-deserved consideration for the honor. Felton averaged 22.5 points, 8 assists, 5.2 rebounds and 3.2 steals, and Gallo averaged 25.5 points and shot .954 from the line and .461 from three in the same span. Gallo’s three-point shooting becomes even more impressive if you exclude his 2-for-10 in the loss to Denver; in the three wins, he hit 10 of 16 (.625) from long range. All three seem to be benefiting from tweaks coach Mike D’Antoni made to the offense; the Knicks have been less reliant on the pick-and-roll – normally a D’Antoni staple. Instead, the Knicks have been initiating plays from the wings, which frees Felton to look for his own shot off the drive more often. Of course, playing three of the West’s weaker squads didn’t hurt. The competition gets tougher this week. Tomorrow night, the Knicks tip off a home-and-home back-to-back set against the Charlotte Bobcats, and on Sunday the Atlanta Hawks visit Madison Square Garden. Injury Updates: Stoudemire twisted his ankle during Saturday’s win over the Clippers. He sat out practice today to get a little extra rest, but isn’t expected to miss tomorrow night’s game against the Bobcats. Ronny Turiaf – nursing a variety of minor injuries – also sat out today’s practice. But like Stoudemire, he’ s fully cleared to play tomorrow. Kelenna Azubuike has started participating in five-on-five scrimmages – another positive sign. The Knicks haven’t set a date for Azubuike’s return to the lineup yet, but it is clearly getting closer. And team president Donnie Walsh is home from the hospital after last week’s hip replacement surgery. --
