Luis Scola (Restricted) Even though Scola is not a very popular name that you hear on ESPN, he is one heck of a basketball player. In three seasons in the league, the Argentinian has averaged 13.1 PPG and 7.9 RPG on 51.9 percent shooting from the field. Scola is an impressive rebounder on both ends of the court and has an outstanding post up game on the offensive side of the floor. While he has yet to average a double-double for an entire season, Scola’s chances of doing so during the upcoming year are more so than none. Although Scola is already 30 years of age, he can provide any team with a surplus of production. 2. Mike Miller While reports have stated that Mike Miller and the Miami Heat have agreed to terms on a five-year, $30 million contract, ESPN has yet to announce the signing as being official. Miller is a superb basketball player with more tools in his arsenal than a handyman. Standing roughly 6’7〃, Miller is extremely versatile and is capable of playing multiple positions on the court. Teaming up with Wade, Bosh, and LeBron, MM will quickly find his role on the squad and excel tremendously, especially from three-point range. 3. Richard Jefferson Coming off of a down year with the San Antonio Spurs, swingman R-Jeff is seeking a team that is looking to contend for a title during the upcoming season. Opting out of his hefty final year $15 million contract proves that Jefferson is not in it for the money but rather for competing for a championship. Being just 30 with career averages of 17 PPG, 5.1 RPG, 2.8 APG, and 46.9 percent shooting from the court, RJ is definitely a free-agent to consider signing especially if he is willing to take a pay-cut for a team that is destined to contend deep into the playoffs. 4. Al Harrington Harrington is a premier scorer in the NBA but has a reputation for ball-hogging and being a problem in the locker room. In New York Big Al posted impressive offensive numbers, 20.7 PPG during the 08-09 season and 17.7 last season, while his defensive presence remains questionable (especially on Mike D’Antoni’s run-and-gun system). Regardless, Harrington is a big body that can knock down the trey-ball and at least defend his position. Teams in need of power-forwards will most certainly go after Harrington, but he may not come at a cheap price. 5. Shaquille O’Neal The 38-year old Shaq Daddy diesel still has gas in his tank, at least at the moment. O’Neal is looking to sign a two-year deal with a team that is obviously in the race for a serious playoff run during the next two seasons. The Hawks have been very high on Superman and if the price is right he could be ending his career in Atlanta. O’Neal can provide any team with terrific rebounding, shot-blocking, and offense in the low-post and in the paint, although he tends to clog up the middle on the offensive end of the floor.
