The arbitrator is expected to take 30 to 45 days to decide the matter. The hearing has no direct bearing on the stalled buyout negotiations between Marbury and the team president Donnie Walsh. Marbury needs to gain his release by March 1 in order to be eligible to play in the postseason for another team. Walsh would not set the odds for reaching an agreement by March 1. But he acknowledged that the franchise is also mindful that Marbury could end up with a potential playoff opponent, namely Boston. “It’s all part of the general picture,” Walsh said. “Because it could impact on you.
