NEW YORK, Jan. 3 – The New York Knicks’ Stephon Marbury and the Memphis
Grizzlies’ Pau Gasol today were named the Eastern Conference and Western
Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Monday,
December 27 through Sunday, January 2.
Marbury led the Knicks to a 2-1 week, averaging 32.3 points on 59.3% shooting,
8.7 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 2.33 steals in games against Orlando, Minnesota
and New Jersey. Marbury recorded 30 or more points in three consecutive games,
becoming the first Knicks player to do so since Patrick Ewing during the
1996-97 season.
