Starbury goes for 31 setting Olympic record; USA advances
Marbury set an all time olympic record for scoring in a men's basketball game
--taking that feat from Charles Barkley. He had 31 points.
Marbury simply took over only the way he can. I want all knick fans to remember
that THIS IS THE SOLE REASON why we are once again so excited to be Knick fans
and we are looking forward to the upcoming season. With Marbury as your point
guard, you always have a chance to win in a game. Marbury was 6-9 in 3 point
shooting. He had the biggest play in the game. When Spain was making their run
late in the 4th, they had a 3 on 1 fast break and Marbury stole the pass by
himself and came back down the court to hit a 3. That changed the momentum for
the game.
Watching Marbury and Iverson in the backcourt together create is awesome; now
just imagine how it's going to be with Crawford and Marbury doing it next
year? This is going to be fun.
US team is looking better and better. They are finally starting to hit outside
shots and they are learning how to play against the zone--drive and kick.
Side Note: International officicating is terrible. IN the beginning they were
calling cheap fouls every time Gasol put the ball on the floor or posted up,
and at the end, you couldn't buy a foul for either tam for about 10 minutes when
bodies were flying.
Spain coach did not like it that Larry Brown called a timeout when the game
was in hand. After the game, Popovich went to speak to the Spain coach and Larry
Brown came over trying to explain himself. The Spain coach kept pointing at
Brown's chest, and you could read Brown's lips saying: "don't point your finger
at me". They had to be seperated by the assistants.
