Bonzi Wells is known to rebound and scrap and compete.
Now he's known for making a game winner.
The guard took an inside feed from Brad Miller and overpowered Jalen Rose
near the basket to score the deciding basket in downing the frustrated
Toronto Raptors 106-104 Friday night at Arco Arena.
The Kings used a 12-2 run to climb back in it against a Raptors club
desperate for a win after a 1-11 start and fresh off of a three-point loss to
the Los Angeles Clippers in which Toronto had led throughout. Jalen Rose's
three-point attempt at the horn just missed, and the Kings escaped with their
10th win over Toronto in 12 tries.
All five Kings starters reached double figures, headed by Mike Bibby with 25
points. Bibby's three-pointer with 2:45 left gave the Kings a 102-100 lead,
capping the 12-2 run. Shareef Abdur-Rahim had 22 points and eight rebounds
for the Kings, who moved to 6-7 with five of their next six games at Arco.
Miller had 16 points, eight rebounds and eight assists, and Francisco Garcia
was again solid in place of Peja Stojakovic, providing 13 points and six
rebounds and his first career NBA three-pointer.
Stojakovic missed his third straight game with a hand injury, though the
Kings' leading scorer said he expects to play Tuesday at home against
Charlotte.
The Raptors lost despite shooting 51 percent and having six players in double
figures, headed by Chris Bosh, who had 22.
Wells had 18 points. His two free throws off an offensive rebound gave
Sacramento a 104-102 lead with 32.4 seconds to go, and Morris Peterson had a
putback with 21.2 left to tie.
