Originally drafted by the Boston Celtics in the second round (50th overall) of the 2002 NBA Draft, Songaila opted to play for team CSKA Moscow of the Russian A Superleague where he averaged 12.8 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 2002-03. He led his team to the 2003 Euroleague Final Four and earned Eurobasket first-team all-league honors. The Kings acquired Songaila via a 2003 NBA Draft Day trade with the Celtics in exchange for the draft rights of two second-round picks (2003 and 2005). In international competition, Songaila helped lead the Lithuanian National Team to a gold medal at the 2003 European Championship in Sweden. He scored 10 points and grabbed four rebounds against Spain in the finale. He will be a member of Lithuania’s National Team in the Olympics this summer. Songaila enjoyed a four-year career at Wake Forest, averaging 14.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game through 130 contests.
