Adelman: "Geoff (Petrie) and I talked about it and he had talked to Joe and Gavin, so we had been discussing it for probably about 10 days or so. Adelman: “I wasn’t looking for anything. I was approached by a couple of people about what my situation was and I said the same thing. It was easy to find out that I only had a year left, but I liked where I was at and I wasn’ t looking to do anything. The whole summer was amazing watching the process in the NBA. I think you kind of take for granted the process until you go to the draft camp and there are 40 jobs changing. Adelman: “The situation with Rick Carlisle really shocked me, and having Larry Brown get that job within hours. I guess you’d be naive to say that nothing was going on. It just seems that sometimes winning is taken for granted, and I think it’s important to have people around you. I’ve been really fortunate I’ve had two great teams that have had chances to win and win big, and I’ve been fortunate to been in places long enough to have your kids get through high school—a couple of times. I’m very appreciative of that because I think there is more to it than just a job. Adelman:“I don’t think there is a better group in basketball operations than we have, starting with Geoff (Petrie) and Wayne (Cooper), and then right on through Scotty (Stirling) and Jerry (Reynolds). We have a situation here where someone isn’t trying to get out in the fore-front and have an ego—we all work together and it’s a real comfortable situation. We work as one group, and it makes a huge difference, because I’ve seen a lot of situations where you have infighting. Adelman: “Joe and Gavin have been terrific; the Maloof family has been terrific to me. I think it’s really important that since they’ve been here we’ve been very stable in what we’re doing. This is just one more example of what they’ve done. They didn’t have to do it, they could have waited. When that happened, the first guy coming through the door was Webber, telling me, ‘Hey, did you know you got an extension,’ and I told him, ‘Yeah, I realized that.’ So it was kinda funny because he thought he was pulling one on me.
