The writing had been on the wall for most of the summer though, as several English sides eyed up the 24-year-old. He was the subject of a loan enquiry from Middlesbrough and Juventus even tried to offer him to Arsenal as bait in the Vieira deal. However, Fenerbahce came to the Bianconeri with an offer of around ￡5.5m, which met their valuation of the player.
