It didn't happen, as the Mavericks put together a better package (including Devin Harris) and got Kidd from the Nets. But in the NBA, doors that once seemed locked often end up re-opening. The Cavs are thrilled with point guard Mo Williams, who became an All-Star this year. But that doesn't mean there isn't room for another, especially if Kidd were to accept a more limited role, as he did for Team USA. Though the Cavs have Delonte West and Daniel Gibson who can handle the ball, they don't have another true point guard on the roster. Wally Szczerbiak will also be a free agent. But with perhaps as much as $30 million coming off the payroll, the Cavs may have some flexibility. They will have their mid-level exception ($5 million) and their bi-annual exception ($2 million) they could use on outside free agents.
