Those problems have dogged the Tribe quite a bit lately, and they were the keys to a 12-4 loss to the Rangers at Ameriquest Field. Byrd was trying to preserve a 1-1 tie with two outs and a runner on in the third. But he gave up a two-run homer to Mark Teixeira followed by a solo shot to Carlos Lee. The back-to-back bombs made it 4-1. More trouble found Byrd and the Indians in the fourth, again with two outs. Gary Matthews Jr. hit a hard grounder to first baseman Ryan Garko, who couldn't get a glove on the ball. The error allowed a runner to score and put two runners in scoring position. The Rangers then pounced on Byrd with Michael Young's two-run single and Teixeira's RBI double to make it 8-1. By that point, the efforts of the Indians' offense, which has struggled mightily since Hafner's season ended here with a broken hand on Sept. 1, clearly weren't going to be enough against Adam Eaton.
