First Team coach Gus was left to reflect on Luka Modric's first 45-minute stint in a Spurs shirt, another bright display from Modric's fellow newcomer Giovani dos Santos and four goals from Darren Bent to cap a performance full of passing, movement and maintaining possession. Ledley King and Gareth Bale also played for the first time this summer. As predicted by Gus, the first half was an evenly-fought contest that we edged 2-1 thanks to an own goal from Dejan Stefanovic via dos Santos' low cross and Bent's first of the night. The second half was one-way traffic though with Bent - remember, a former Ipswich player - stealing the show with a hat-trick taking his personal tally to four and securing a 5-1 final scoreline. "That was good," beamed Gus at Carrow Road. "We passed the ball well and scored goals so that was ideal and the players are also improving their fitness all the time." Modric played a pivotal role in central midfield in the first half and linked well with the likes of Jermaine Jenas, dos Santos and Jamie O'Hara. "Luka played in midfield and from there he can control the game," added Gus. "He's going to be the player who will dictate whether we play quick or slow and he's so good on the ball, keeping it and especially receiving it. "I think he will be very exciting for everyone in England. "Darren Bent has been fantastic throughout pre-season.
