Dimitar Berbatov admitted to a few nerves before his crucial penalty at Wembley - even if it didn't appear that way! The striker was coolness personified as he strolled up to the spot, allowed Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech to make his move and slotted the ball into the opposite corner. That equalising goal was the key point in Sunday’s Carling Cup Final as Chelsea, leading 1-0 somewhat against the run of play, appeared happy to see the game out. We kept pressing, won the penalty, levelled and then after creating more chances, went ahead via Jonathan Woodgate’s header in the fourth minute of extra time. It was then a case of seeing the game out ourselves and we produced a collectively outstanding defensive performance with the likes of Woodgate, Ledley King and Paul Robinson all there when it mattered. Back to that penalty though - was the Bulgarian as calm as he looked? “I tried to look like that but inside I was nervous,” he said. “I think Cech is the best keeper in the world so you are always going to be nervous but I tried to stay calm and I’m just pleased I scored. “It felt fantastic. It’s not as easy as it looks because a penalty is always difficult and in a game like this there is extra pressure. I tried to stay calm and I’m glad I scored. “Days like this are why we play football. We deserved to win, we fought all the way and had more chances to win. The feeling when the whistle blew was undescribable, everyone was so happy and it was great to see so many smiles, the fans deserve that.
